25th Anniversary of World Expo ’88

It's hard to believe that twenty five years have passed since the landmark event in Brisbane's history that was World Expo '88 graced our shores, and connected us with the global community in a way the city had never experienced before. On Sunday April 28th take a nostalgic trip down memory lane at the 25th Anniversary celebrations .

Head back to the original site - Southbank Parklands, where the last vestiges of Expo '88 remain for a free family event, and relive your favourite Expo '88 moments.

Brisbane's Lord Mayor and the Queensland Premier will host an 80's themed picnic at Southbank's Cultural Forecourt from 10.00am - 4.00pm featuring entertainment, food, live music, roving performance and art.

For me Expo '88 was a time of great excitement and discovery, and as a teenager experiencing my first taste of parental freedom and independence. I fondly remember many hours spent in the funpark with friends, and exploring the expansive site which at the time seemed like a gigantic wonderland. Banana, the friend I made who worked at the Thailand pavilion still holds a special place in my heart as does the memory of seeing Icehouse perform at the open-air River Stage.

What is your special or favourite Expo '88 memory?
