Immerse yourself in all things Annerley
As part of the Brisbane Fringe Festival, Annerley Community Plus brings you a fantastic look under the covers of Annerley and all the incredible things it has to offer.
Annerley is a unique little suburb on the Inner South of Brisbane. It's not a lot to look at if you're zipping past one of the two shopping precincts of Annerley Junction or Chardon's Corner on Ipswich Road but it's the heart of the community which beats strong and loud as they fight to see positive change in their area. There are a lot of issues with an historical suburb built on the only main road from Brisbane to Ipswich. First of all, there are the trucks and traffic which choke the streets and make it so noisy you can't talk on the phone while on the footpath. Then there's the lack of greenery on the main road - a throwback to the boom building of the 70s and 80s where concrete jungles were the popular choice and vegetation took a back seat to business progress.
But if you can look past these shortcomings, there is a bustling and friendly group of locals who greet each other warmly on the street, meet to figure out how to fix the suburb's problems and brighten up the neighbourhood by 'yarn-bombing' and using Council-sanctioned graffiti to welcome you to Annerley.
This group of neighbours and friends have begun a revolution in this suburb and their next big step is Annerley Uncovered - a celebration of everything on offer locally. Here's a list of a few of the things you can do for FREE or a gold coin if you come along this Saturday to Annerley Hall.
