I am always looking out for new experiences, wherever I may find myself.
The Animania Festival is all about celebrating and exploring the Japanese world of anime and manga, and is the largest event of its kind in Australia. In 2013, it will run for two days, on Saturday September 14 and Sunday September 15, from 10.00am till 6.00pm, at the Australian Technology Park in Eveleigh (near Redfern Station).
A range of areas will provide guests with all sorts of fun experiences, where you can enjoy games, join some classes, browse some stalls and more. A special guest of honour will be at this year's event too: voice actor Fumiko Orikasa.
The Main Stage is the place to go if you want to catch some fantastic costumes, which will be on show in the the Animania Festival Cosplay Competition. The stage will also host the the 2013/2014 World Cosplay Summit (WCS) Australian Preliminary, martial arts demonstrations and more.
At ARTspace, you will find an area completely dedicated to anime and manga art. Here you can participate in interactive art workshops on origami and papercraft, competitions and see the Asian Ball Jointed Dolls Showcase. You can also let loose with some texta on the ARTspace Graffiti Wall.
The WCS Stage (formerly known as the Chibi Stage) will mainly host World Cosplay Summit events. These include special talks and screenings, as well as Cosplay panels, where audience participation is encouraged (indeed, it's almost required).
If you're a game fan, head to the Games Zone, where you can try out the latest and greatest Japanese video games. The popular Brawl competition will be back and there will be a few new surprises this year.
Other places to explore at Animania include the Food Fair, where you can get both Japanese and more familiar foods, as well as the karaoke room and Cafe Fuwa Fuwa.
Tickets to Animania cost $40.00 for adults (13 years and older) if you just want to attend on Saturday or Sunday, but you can also get a ticket for both days for $55.00. Children cost $30.00 for one day and $45.00 for both and they can all be bought online or at the door (though the latter will be cash only, and correct change is required).
