Don’t mess with a punk koala
We've heard of Punks, Goths and Hippies, right? Well, have you ever met an animal with attitude? Which animal? The humble Australian Koala is going to be shaking the streets of the Gold Coast with some colourful attitude that will catch your attention and win some hearts.

Local sculptor, John Cox, winner of many awards, including an Academy Award for the Australian feature film Babe, has teamed up with 18 super talented artists, from across Australia, to create 21 giant sculpted koalas with attitude that have been strategically dispersed throughout the Gold Coast. Your mission is to track them down, take plenty of photos, show them off to your friends and spread the word about this amazing exhibition.

What's in it for you, you're asking? Not only will you get to appreciate beautiful artwork from Australian artists, but you'll have the satisfaction of knowing that you'll be supporting the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital Foundation in raising funds to assist them to continue their work of saving and healing over 7,000 sick and injured animals that are admitted to their hospital for treatment every year.

So, how do you find these delightful sculptures? The grand opening of this exhibition begins on Friday 1st of March from 1pm at Victoria Park, Broadbeach. All 21 sculptures will be displayed at Victoria Park until Sunday, 3rd of March. This will be the only time you see them together before they are dispersed to different locations throughout the Gold Coast where they will be on display until the 28th of April.

Below is a map of the Gold Coast Koala Trail highlighting where they will be on display and some brief information on the artist and name of the sculpture. If you happen to fall in love with a particular sculpture, write down its name because on Saturday, 4th of May, you'll get the opportunity to attend the Gala Hospital Foundation dinner where these magnificent sculptures will be auctioned off to raise money for the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital Foundation.

The Gala Dinner is a black tie event where you'll be spoiled with fine dining, drinks and entertainment. Tickets for the Gala Dinner can be booked through the Hospital Foundation by contacting Emma Moore on 07 5534 0882 or emailing Emma at: [email protected]. If you would still like to participate in the auction but cannot attend the Gala Dinner, contact Emma for your options.

Love the aussie koala at Burleigh, should be kept there permanently and anyone who doesn't like the sculpture should brainstorm aother ways to raise funds for the brilliant work that CWS does. WELL DONE to all the artists.
