What is the best bit about EKKA? I guess we all have our favourites whether it is the showbags, the rides, the famous dagwood dogs or the displays. For me, it is without a doubt the wonderful animals that Royal Queensland make such efforts to share with the families who all flock to the show, pardon the pun, and the competitions which hold us all in such excitement.

So if you are an animal lover like me, these are some of the images and the events that are in store for you this year. EKKA runs from Friday the 10th of August to Sunday the 19th.

Do you melt away seeing these pups - I know I do and I will certainly get my fill of puppy and dog moments by making sure I tap into all things dogs on the Royal Queensland site.

From canine competitions to meeting a sheepdog, watching them do their agility stunts, dancing, performing, obeying commands, is there anything these wonderful dogs can't do?

Or perhaps if you want to take your animal love to new territory how about meeting a goat this year? This is available to you at the show. Did you know there are about seven different breeds of goat, all of which will be on display as well as some interesting competitions with junior handlers kicking around with their goats!

If Goats don't do it for you and you are more of a cuddly person, do not fear, there is a perfect answer to how you should be spending your time at Ekka this year. Yes, cuddling a little chick which could not be cuter and fluffier.
