is not a gourmet burger restaurant, it's not a takeaway burger joint, is an institution. It is an age old institution, located in a tiny store in Albert Park. Blink and you'll miss it. They have been around forever, and from what I understand, the quality and popularity has not changed. If you have not tried it yet, then you have not had a real burger. Tough call I understand.

I'm sure there will be many crying out in disagreement; yes burger lovers are a passionate bunch. There will be those that think Danny's in North Fitzroy, or Roozervelts on Collins Street, or gourmet joints such as Grilled, are the better alternative. I do agree that these other burgers are delicious in their own right, but at , you get nothing else but a really good, all round burger.

If it's your first visit, there is really nothing else that you can order except the traditional beef burger with the lot. For less than $10, you get a generous serving of a soft bun encasing a thick and crispy beef patty, topped off with bacon, egg, tomato, cheese, lettuce and tomato sauce. I also recommend adding extra onions. I have no idea what they put in their beef patties, but the flavours are incredible. They don't try to substitute for flavour by overdosing on the salt and the meat practically melts in your mouth. Whit regards to the buns, there is no fancy multigrain, wholegrain, rye, and sourdough here. All you get is a simple, soft and fresh white bun, which compliments the filling perfectly without overpowering. Though happily a vegetarian convert, I do miss the beef burgers here.

Now for vegetarians such as myself, Andrews does not disappoint. The veggie burger with a home made veggie pattie, cheese, tomato, cooked onions, lettuce and tomato sauce is veggie burger heaven. I am hooked. You wouldn't think of as a first choice for vegetarians, but I'm a regular visitor. Again I'm not sure what goes in the veggie patty, but the flavours are equally as addictive as the meat option.

Don't forget to order your side of fat chips; they are crispy on the outside and soft and potato-y on the inside. Just the way I like my chips. Also add a can of coke to help with the digestion.

Come here on a very empty stomach or with a late night hangover (they open late into the night).
