Fields of canola greeted me during a visit to Andrew Nagorcka's farm outside Hamilton.

The bright yellow flowers stand out vividly among the greenery and seem to announce a warm welcome to Spring. Canola is actually related to vegetables like cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli and turnip.

I understand from Andrew that canola is grown to make edible seed oils which are healthy and the protein-rich by-product after the oil is extract is a used to feed livestock.

Many canola fields like Andrew's dot the farmlands outside Hamilton and provide a excellent reason to stop by the side of the road and smell the flowers.
