My Mum saw a comedy/musical show on scoopon for only $9 at the Gold Coast Arts Centre! So a group of us got together and went down to the Arts Centre to check out this show by comedian Andrew Horabin. None of us had heard about Andrew before or even the tour but thought why not. And boy, are we lucky we went. I have always been a bit sceptical of comedian shows because I often find it is stupid humour or feel I would get embarrassed for them if they aren't funny. Mum assured me that a show at the Gold Coast Arts Centre wouldn't be like that, and indeed it wasn't. It was a great show which was hilarious but also had a story and a moral and defiantly kept you talking afterwards.
The story was about a young man who was about to get married and at his bucks party he runs into his fiancé in the small down and his drunken antics force her to give him an ultimatum. She says the wedding will be off if he can't prove to her that he's a man. This brings to question, what does it mean to be a man?
Andrew told a great story and lead us through this young man's journey of discovery with humour and music.
During a break in the middle of the show everyone filled out questions cards about what we thought a man was. Andrew read through these when the show recommenced and it was a great way to get everyone involved. He also put together a song at the end with all the good answers from the crowd which demonstrated a great skill to put a comic song together so quickly and also hilarious.
The musical performances by Andrew throughout the show was fantastic. The songs he performed and many others are available on a CD. Which we purchased after the show where all proceeds were going towards Men's Health which was great. The CD has 18 songs with 49 different singers and musicians contributing including Hip Mo Toast Big Band and the Kill Devils Hills.
Andrew is currently on a tour so be sure to check out his
website to see if he is in a town near you soon or to purchase a CD.
