The prestigious Anchorage restaurant on the Strand has recently extended and now provides a street-food offer. At water's edge, it's coffee and cake. And you get to enjoy one of the best features of this much loved local institution - the location.
Not only are the views across the bay to the city world class, you're sitting next to the Anchorage Marina. Coffee has a unique flavour listening to halyards rattle in the wind and watching pelicans fly a few metres above boats moored close-by.
Not everyone's a people watcher. At the Coffee Shed you can: see container ships navigate the Yarra River, enjoy Melbourne's skyline from a distance or wonder at the naval sea vessel docked in the distance.
Feeding the swans is another option, especially if the children are in tow.
The salt air and smell of the sea might even have you dreaming about the expensive boat you've always wanted. Thanks to the Global Financial Crisis, you can still get a bargain, there's a number on sale at the marina.
There's plenty of parking on either side of the Strand; and without busy shops that usually accompany street vendors, the Coffee Shed doesn't come with crowds. There's just a relaxed few sitting, chatting or taking in the views on the table and chairs nearby.
