Libby Hammer and Jessie Gordon go blokey for Fringe World
Libby Hammer and Jessie Gordon are highly respected jazz singers.

There's a certain aesthetic associated with jazz singing, one of glamour and opulence.

The Fringe World performance of the Anatomically Incorrect Gentlemen gives the pair an opportunity to leave the makeup, sequins and hairspray behind for an hour, to dress up like men and try to deconstruct gender stereotypes in a fun light-hearted way.

Jessie says that both she and Libby are also passionate about equal rights, marriage equality and LGBTQIA issues.

"So we combined our passion equality with our passion for hats and pants and came up with an act where we play ukuleles and sing in harmony and occasionally Lib busts out a kazoo or we do ridiculous dance routines," she says.

"Libby and I are known for our jazz singing primarily and when we started talking about working together we talked about how fun it would be to do something very different.

"Our music for this show is a mix of old jazz, country and gospel tunes as well as a few songs we've changed the lyrics to, in order to make them more appropriate for the modern Australian world (like 'baby it's warm outside')," she says.

It will be an evening of gender bending comedy and music, with tiny guitars (read: ukuleles) and very manly harmonies, along with the occasional monologue on the hardships of maintaining manliness while also being women.

Libby is Perth's own resident jazz diva and a multiple WAMI award winner.

She can sing, dance, juggle, act and clown.

Jessie is a very sun-shy red-headed jazz singer who enjoys swing music, dancing in her kitchen to Otis Redding and drinking a good old fashioned Old Fashioned.

With voices blended in harmony, these two raffish gents will transport you to a world where gender is a performance and music is a state of mind.
