An Vy is a nice, little Vietnamese restaurant parched on 647 Warrigal Road, Chadstone. On a long, hot afternoon, hungry and sweaty, when I tentatively pushed open the glass door of An Vy, I was greeted by a smiley waitress/manager who whisked me off to a table of my choice and handed me a bulky menu.

A quick browse confirmed that the menu was teeming with an amazing array of drool-worthy and cheap options. Designed to cater to the taste and preference of all, including the ones with an indecisive streak, the menu will enchant your heart and will have you at 'Hello'.

My lunch partner soon decided upon pork broken rice combo which comes complete with 2 spring rolls and a soup or a soft drink along with fish sauce. Arrested with indecision, as I was greedily eyeing various suitable selections, the friendly manager eagerly recommended the hot and spicy seafood fried rice, in a combo. As I hovered between this recommendation and another equally delicious option, I helplessly turned towards the manager who immediately reiterated her recommendation while adding that the dish was very delicious and was one of the most popular items on the menu. With this utterance, we sealed the deal then and there.

Once I have placed the order and taken a breather, I turned my mind towards absorbing my surroundings. It was around 4pm and given the hour of the day, the place was very empty. I noted that eating area was dotted with black wooden chairs and tables while the walls have been distastefully painted white, with occasional red splashes.

The food arrived without much ado. The steamy, hot, freshly cooked pork broken rice looked amazing. The dish came complete with rice, a poached egg, pork chop, shredded pork and pork cake accompanied by fish sauce. I hungrily eyed my lunch partner taking his first mouthful of the pork chop. Then he tasted some shredded pork and a bit of the pork cake, smiled and made the first comment, 'It is delicious'. Following cue, I proceeded to sample the food. The shredded pork was soft and melted in the mouth but was slightly dry. The pork chop, on the other hand, was non-greasy, tender and yummy. The pork cake was soft and quite good. Overall, this dish was quite tasty and can be described as mildly spicy.

The hot and spicy seafood fried rice suffused the air with a wonderful fragrance and had been presented in the most delightful manner. I enthusiastically dug into my dish and the first mouthful told me that the manager had made a candid observation about the dish. True to her words, the fried rice was spicy, hot, beautifully done and was brimming with succulent prawns, scallops, calamari and veggies. A splendid blend of spices and flavour, done to perfection. Arguably, one of the best fried rice I have ever tried in Melbourne.

The spring rolls were crispy and flavoursome, wrapped in lettuce and dipped in fish sauce.

Needless to say, the food disappeared soon, leaving behind neat and clean plates. Well-fed and hydrated, we were ready to bid our farewell. The bill came up to be $27 for our hearty and delicious meal.

An Vy enjoys an envious location. This place is conveniently situated in front of the Holmesglen Railway Station. And right at the doorstep of the restaurant is the bus stop for bus no. 903. If you are driving then ample parking can be found next door at the massive car park in front of the Matthew Flinders Hotel and the BWS store.

As a sidenote, this place only accepts cash so it will be wise to carry some plastic in your wallet when you venture inside this establishment. However, if you have forgotten to get some cash, then fear not. A Commonwealth Bank ATM is only a few shops away.

The manager informed me that An Vy is open 6 days a week with the doors closed on Tuesdays. Opening hours are 11am to 10pm. BYO is endorsed by the restaurant authorities. Eat in and takeaway options are available.

Scrumptious food, generous servings, warm and friendly service in conjunction with cheap prices, mean An Vy gets a pat on the back and a rating of 4.5 out of 5.

An Vy awaits you
