Powerhouse singing duo Vika and Linda Bull will be accompanied by Cameron Bruce on the Grand Piano as they bring their current touring show to the Redland Performing Arts Centre on 2 November 2024.



With a foundation in gospel music, Melbourne singing sisters Vika and Linda Bull are Australian music royalty. With their melodic harmonies having seen them perform for 7 years with The Black Sorrows , they also collaborated with leading Australian and international performers including Kasey Chambers, Paul Kelly and John Farnham.

In 2022, Vika and Linda were awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in the Queen’s Birthday Honours, for their service to the performing arts.

Vika and Linda will be heading to Brisbane on their current tour and I asked them about the show at the Redland Performing Arts Centre in the Concert Hall.



Australian singer James Reyne once said that “musical life with Vika and Linda is one that’s full of soul, harmony and joy.” How would you describe how you feel when you perform together?

Isn't James gorgeous. That is exactly how we feel when we sing together. When we sing together the feeling is one of absolute trust. We trust that we understand each other enough to go for it and that regardless of whether we succeed or fail we’re both giving it 100 per cent.

What led you to decide to perform this current show, An Evening With Vika and Linda with just your producer and musical Director Cameron Bruce, on Grand Piano?

We had been touring around the country with our incredible band, The Bullettes, for three years non-stop and thought it would be interesting to hear a slightly different repertoire without the safety net of a band. We wanted to do something that showcased the voice, the harmonies and Cameron's brilliant musicianship – just two voices and a piano. We wanted to explore the idea of a more intimate musical experience with storytelling as well in a theatre environment. And being able to do old songs and give them new life is a challenge and fun but also being able to showcase new material is like a breath of fresh air for us.



Is there something liberating and empowering about singing and performing in this way alongside the Grand Piano?

The power of performing with only one instrument like a grand piano gives you room as a singer to push and pull the songs more. It’s also slightly nerve-wracking to hang yourselves out in the open because there’s definitely nowhere to hide! It is really quite an emotional experience because the piano is such a rich and powerful instrument, it brings strength and tenderness to every song.

You have both made an enormous contribution to Australian music as well written a book, and received honours including an OAM. What's next for you both?

Accolades are wonderful and they mean a lot but we’re driven by music and the creative process so we will be writing and singing and working towards a new album in the very near future. And we want to keep singing for as long as we can!

Following their Brisbane show, Vika and Linda will head to Sydney for a special show on their national tour as they perform with Kasey Chambers on 14 November 2024 in the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall.
