The hills are alive with the sound of Dame Julie
She's the iconic voice of musicals. The woman everyone thinks of when you say "Mary Poppins" and can run up a hillside in Austria like no other.

Yes, it's Dame Julie Andrews - and she's coming back to the UK, with special appearances in Birmingham, London and Liverpool.

The legendary star or stage and screen Julie Andrews is touring the UK

An Evening with Julie Andrews takes place at Birmingham NIA on May 24, 2014, before similar nights at Liverpool's EchoTwo arena on May 27 and London's Hammersmith Apollo from May 30 to 31.

The musical star of stage and screen for the past 65 years will speak about her fascinating life and career in showbusiness from performing on Broadway in The Boyfriend, My Fair Lady and Camelot, to her award-winning screen performances in Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music, and Victor-Victoria. There will also be clips of special Julie Andrews highlights on a screen through the night.

The star may be known for her acting career, which has earned her an Academy Award, Golden Globes, BAFTAs, Emmys and Grammys in her trophy cabinet, but she will also talk about her interest in philanthropy and activism on behalf of various causes and charities.

The second half of the show will include a question and answer session with fans, which is something the actress is described as particularly enjoying.

Dame Julie Andrews said: "It is a great joy for me to be returning to my home country.

"I look forward to sharing stories of my career and providing the audience with a few extra nuggets that may not have been seen before."

Dame Andrews made her London debut performance at the Hippodrome in Leicester Square at the age of 12 and appeared in her first Royal Command Performance when she was just 13-years-old.

Her singing voice made her a star in the movies - most famously Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music - but surgery to remove non-cancerous nodules from her throat in the 1990s left her unable to sing.

In her later years, Dame Andrews has continued to delight a new generation of fans with recent roles in The Princess Diaries, Shrek, The Tooth Fairy and Despicable Me.

She is also an accomplished best-selling author of children's books, several of which are currently being adapted for the stage and screen.

The star comes to the UK after a recent sell-out six city tour in Australia and New Zealand.
