The four-time Tony Award-winning musical, An American in Paris, has finally arrived in Sydney. This timeless love story, told through a classic score, superb acting, vivacious dance and spectacular set design, has wowed audiences around the world.

A ground-breaking collaboration between The Australian Ballet and GWB Entertainment, An American in Paris is inspired by the movie of the same name and tells the story of a young American soldier and a French ballerina in a city emerging from the war in 1945. Set in newly liberated post-war Paris, the setting is romantic and entrancing.

Acclaimed director and choreographer, Christopher Wheeldon, brings the charm and enchantment of Paris to life with the much-loved music of George Gershwin and Ira Gershwin, featuring hit songs like 'SWonderful, I Got Rhythm, Stairway to Paradise and They Can't Take That Away from Me.

The celebrated Broadway and West End leads, Robbie Fairchild and Leanne Cope, alternate the lead roles of Jerry and Lise with The Australian Ballet's Cameron Holmes and Dimity Azoury. They are supported by an outstanding Australian ensemble cast drawn from the worlds of ballet and musical theatre. This is a significant moment for The Australian Ballet, the production being the first time the company has been associated with musical theatre. An American in Paris couldn't be a better medium, putting ballet centre stage in its storytelling.

With an outstanding, world-class cast and inspired production team, An American in Paris tells a story that is as much for today as it was when the original movie version premiered in 1951. As our world emerges from the challenges of the past two years of pandemic, war and more, there is a resonance to this story and the hope and joy it conveys.

An American in Paris is deserving of the recognition and awards it has received, with the Sydney production delivering a much-needed dose of spirit and energy for an audience who loved every minute of the performance. I would see it again and again.
