An American in Paris is finally here! After some unfortunate delays due to COVID-19 (we've all been there), An American in Paris is showing right now in Brisbane in the Lyric Theatre at QPAC!

Now I thought I knew what I was in for when I took my seat. I had read the promotions, seen the pictures and had a basic idea of the plot. Oh, how I was so wrong.

First and foremost, I want to say that if you are a ballet lover or a musical lover, you will adore this show. This tour of An American in Paris is a collaboration between The Australian Ballet (and oh my goodness, do I love the Australian Ballet) and GWB Entertainment. I was surprised by the amount of ballet and dancing that was in the musical but I was definitely not disappointed.

A huge kudos to the creative team, everything was done so well. The very first thing I realised is not a single person ever just 'walks' on stage. Everything is choreographed, danced and beautiful. Every element of the show is thought out and everything flows together seamlessly.

The next set of praise needs to go to the enormously talented cast. I will secretly admit that I developed a crush on one of the leading men by the end of the show. They can sing and they can dance - who could ask for anything more?

Something that was a feat in itself is the sheer engineering behind the scenes to immerse you in the story. I swear, there are so many scene changes and props moving around and yet one scene transitions so smoothly into the next one, you barely realise that the entire stage from the lighting, costumes, backdrop and set pieces have changed until you're in a completely new setting.

Now I'm just one person but this musical really is a work of art, and the crowd knew it. The theatre was packed to the rafters and the cast got a standing ovation for their performances.

If my review has fully convinced you or piqued your interest in the slightest, you can see more about the show from the Australian American In Paris website or QPAC website .

Unfortunately for us all, the show is closing January 30th, so be sure to see it in Brisbane while you still can (though the show will be available around Australia if you feel like going on a road trip to catch it once it's left Brisbane).

You can book tickets here , which range from $59.95 - $169.95 based on time/day/age.

Last but not least, if you've made it this far through the review I think there's a good chance you'll be turning up to An American In Paris! If you're keen to learn more about the journey the artists went on to produce this show, you'll want to pick up this bad boy from the merchandise desk. Costing $25, it may not be for everyone but it does have some absolutely gorgeous photos from the production and it covers interviews with the two lead performers as well as a bit of history about the Gershwin brothers and Paris in WW2.

In summary, this show is absolutely beautiful in the way it's coordinated, choreographed and performed. It is a fusion of ballet and Broadway that I had not expected with a very talented cast to execute it.

This show has been cut short due to COVID-19 and will only be running for three weeks, so do yourself a favour and pick up a ticket right now from QPAC .
