I like to participate in life rather than be a spectator. Music, dancing, theatre, travelling, food, cycling and walking are some of my passions. Writing is an enjoyable pastime that allows me to share my experiences.
Visiting a city or country and living like a local is possible when you register with Airbnb. Searching the website and seeing some of the interesting properties available makes one want to jump on a plane to stay in a Cretan stone villa, a treehouse in Florence or a city apartment in Porto. The range of accommodation available is large from private rooms for one to entire houses suitable for family holidays.
Staying in an Airbnb connects you with someone (the host) who lives in the area and is happy to share their local knowledge. It is great value and usually provides an opportunity to self-cater in a home away from home.
Our first Airbnb experience was very positive. Needing somewhere to stay in Sydney for a work conference, we found nearby hotel rooms to be expensive and in short supply. We created a profile with Airbnb and chose a roomy one bedroom apartment that had all the facilities we needed plus some. After a few emails and a payment via PayPal, we were given instructions regarding the address and a meeting time. As well as a great location close to Central Station, the apartment building was equipped with security access, a gym and indoor pool.
