I am always in awe of stand-up comedians - to be alone on a stage in front of a critical audience for an hour or more would scare me silly. But for Amos Gill, it is obviously a source of great fun as he paces tirelessly across the extensive Cornucopia stage for his world premiere Fringe show, firing off jokes and observations as he goes.



This Adelaide Fringe, as was to be expected, is a lot different from previous years. For a start, the Garden of Unearthly Delights and Gluttony are segregated into sections, with each having its own venues and food stalls. To get into each area, patrons must have a ticket and perform the now ritual COVID check-in and once inside, it's the usual 1.5 metres distancing and staggered seating in venues.

However, this did not deter the hordes eagerly queuing to get back to the crazy atmosphere of bright lights, strange characters and loud noise that is the Fringe.

Gill's jokes are mainly aimed at the Millennials, of which he is one, so a gentle warning to any grey-haired patrons - don't sit near the front, unless you are prepared to be the butt of his humour. The social comment is incisive and hilarious, (although, of course, totally non-P.C.!) and the large audience lapped it up. However, if you are easily offended, approach with caution as the language and sexual innuendo may be confronting. But if you love good stand-up and can laugh at the world, then Amos Gill is Champion.
