The best Italian cafe & deli in the Northern Suburbs
Amici Deli creates a little pocket of Italy in the suburb of Chermside with cafe service, small goods and imported groceries. Amici is Italian for friends and they certainly have a lot of friends among locals, as they have long been a Chermside staple.
Frankie & Josie have run the Amici deli for many years, more than I can remember, and living up to the name, they are friends with all of their regular customers. The deli itself features a wide range of European products, as well as a few from other countries and Australian gourmet products.
They also have a range of small goods, cheese and other items sold fresh in the deli. This includes items ready to take home and or to be cooked and heated up to be eaten in the cafe. There are also a number of imported items, including Italian coffee percolators and even clothing items.

Most people choose to sit outside. As the cafe is set in a strip mall and not directly on Gympie Road, it is a great little oasis. In winter, there is enough indoor seating to accommodate people escaping the cold. Also, there is plenty of parking out the front and behind the strip of shops.

The cafe opens early in the morning and they have a range of items on the menu. These are your typical Australian cafe breakfasts, from pancakes through to a big breakfast, though they often add an Italian twist. The Amici Special is basically a big breakfast with italian pork and fennel sausages, and the avocado and feta is on a Turkish roll with a balsamic glaze.

You will be better off ordering off the menu by looking in the cabinet for items, such as a range of frittatas and quiches, as well as other great Italian foods. For lunch, this is the main option for food.

Amici Deli is also a popular for coffee following the classic Italian tradition. The cappuccinos come with a generous sprinkling of chocolate, which seems to be their most popular coffee option. They also do a range of hot and iced teas as well as smoothies.
