From the Lala hospitality group that brought you Molly, the Highball Express, 88mph and Bleachers Sports Bar, comes Amici, one of the newest bars in Canberra. Situated in the iconic Melbourne Building, the Lala Hospitality group has continued the trend of giving all their venues a clear theme, and the theme here with Amici is definitely Italian. Amici in Italian means friends and this is exactly the place to go with friends.
Amici is perfect for any social events with friends as it's not only a wine and cocktail bar, but it's also a cafe and deli. During the day you can grab a coffee and pastry and then return in the evening for wine and charcuterie boards. There's a good selection of local wines on offer here and also a number of Italian and Spanish wines.
However, when I visited last Saturday night I wasn't really interested in the wine, as I actually came to try the cocktails. The cocktail list isn't long here with only four options as well as their Negroni fountain which flows daily. I didn't mind the small number of cocktails on the list as it made choosing so much easier. I decided to try the Hugo which was a really light cocktail with just the right amount of sweetness. I then also tried the Hanky Panky, and although it was nice, it wasn't as good as the Hugo.
While enjoying the cocktails we also shared the sourdough bread with extra virgin olive oil, and despite the simplicity of the ingredients, it tasted fantastic. Which got me thinking that if the bread and olive oil tasted so good, imagine how good the charcuterie boards would taste!
