What are the good things that we picture when we think of America? We think of Elvis, We think of Hotdogs at the baseball game, milkshakes and possibly a variety of candy that as Australians we don't have ready access to. Well, Cupcake Café gives us all of these things, except the baseball… and Elvis but they play his music which is a nice reminiscence.

Hidden away on the Parade, Norwood is the quaint cupcake café, as their website states "Next door to Dick Smith". I stumbled across this place by accident whilst looking for something to sate my sweet tooth.

is adorable. The moment you step inside you feel as though you've been swept back into 1950's America. The walls are painted in pink, the floor is black and white checkers, there's 50's rock & roll playing over the speakers, Milkshakes are being made and your friendly staff are all in rockabilly style.

Of course I could go on and on about the décor but that's not what you want to hear about, is it? – You'd prefer to hear about the food? Well alright then. Unfortunately for me, I didn't get to try any of their hot foods, such as their burgers or hotdogs but boy did they have a selection. Anything that you can think of being in a burger, they do it. In fact I believe they even have a chilli con carne hotdog. One of the menu's items that impressed me the most was curly fries. I went to America four years ago and whilst I was over there I had the most amazing curly fries, since coming back I've been unable to find a place that does curly fries. I know I'll definitely be trying them when I make another visit.

Onto what I did eat whilst I was there. I had a vanilla cupcake, simple yes but definitely delicious. The cupcake itself was light and fluffy and the icing just the right consistency to stay perfectly in place atop the cake without being firm. Adding to it was a cute edible candy lilac flower which was lovely. Also there was a double chocolate cupcake.

As I have mentioned in my other reviews, I'm not a big fan of chocolate, I find it gets very sickening very quickly. This cupcake however very rich wasn't sickening (to be fair I did only eat half). It came with a small chocolate heart on top and is a must have classic. The store has a variety of 26 different types of cupcakes that are made throughout the week, not all flavours will be there at once, but there is an enormous selection.

Alongside my cupcake I also tried a cinnamon hot chocolate. I'm a huge fan of cinnamon and found this hot chocolate to be delectable. It came in a large glass mug, definitely giving you value for the price and managed to find the perfect balance with the sweet sugar and the spicy cinnamon.

The store also stocks a variety of American imports such as Captain Crunch and Lucky Charms cereal, Reeses chocolate bars, individual pieces of chocolate, ice cream toppings etc. One item that particularly caught my eye was Wrigley's Big Red gum. Now I don't know if that's obtainable in Adelaide or not, I've never come across it anywhere other than America and boy did the cinnamon flavour make me happy.

In the end it's safe to say that on the sweet side of things, is the perfect place to visit to cure that sweet craving. If you're a lover of all things American or just love cupcakes, don't hesitate to check it out.
