We've all heard the horrifying statistics that on average, one person is diagnosed with cancer every 20 minutes in Queensland. All of us know someone who is affected. We all find it hard to deal with this disease as a sufferer and as a bystander.

Cancer Council Queensland is doing its best to make the ordeal easier on everyone. They raise funds to:help Cancer Council QLD 13 11 20 provide confidential supporthelp provide accommodation for a regional cancer patient at a lodge near a treatment facilityhelp connect a cancer survivor with a newly diagnosed patient with one-on-one supporthelp fund cancer research to help discover the next breakthroughhelp fund clinical trials which test new ways to prevent, diagnose and treatment

The Cancer Council Queensland Redlands Volunteer Branch is a group of volunteers from Brisbane's Redlands district who constantly work to raise funds for this cause by way of morning teas, plant sales, craft sales, cent auctions and many other activities. They are a fun-loving group that likes to raise funds in a friendly environment that encourages both social interaction and good times.

Case in point, The Amazing Cancer Race, to be held on Sunday, 19th of June.

What's this all about?

Based on the television show of the same name, you make a Team of either 4 or 5 people and travel by car around various parks around Cleveland at which there will be a series of challenges.

Just like in the tv program, you will need a Team Name and a propensity for fun. This is a family-friendly event, so pack up the family, grab the neighbours, or have some fun with the girlfriends. Because of the terrain (grass), it may not be suitable for all people.

What you need to do :Register online here. Present at Clevelands Showgrounds at Long Street, Cleveland at 1:30 pm.At 2 pm, your team will be supplied with directions and instructions for your first challenge. After completing various challenges at different parks around Cleveland you head back to the Showgrounds for prize presentations, raffles and a sausage sizzle.

The entry fee for a carload of 4 people is $80, or $100 for 5 people.

See, I told you. This is a dedicated bunch of people who are passionate about putting the fun back into fundraising.
