Know what an Brazilian Agouti is? Seen a Himalayan Tahr recently? See these wonderful creatures and many others at Alma Park Zoo at Dakabin.

For budding zoologists, experienced zookeepers host presentations on their charges throughout the day. See monkeys, snakes, crocodiles, sun bears and red pandas enjoying meals. Animal experiences at the snakes, crocodiles and koala presentations provide an opportunity to get up close and personal with cuddly (and some not so cuddly) critters.

Pretend to be a zookeeper in the kangaroo and deer enclosures where you can hand feed the animals. Stop being a zookeeper and try the life of a farmer in Friendship Farm; a walk through touch and feed enclosure home to alpacas, sheep, baby chickens and miniature cows.

Other animals on display include lemurs at the purpose built Lemur Island, cassowaries and emus, dingoes, iguanas and lizards, great burrowing cockroaches and other creepy crawlies, birds, owls, wombats and echidnas.

Take a BBQ, picnic or buy lunch at the onsite café and enjoy your meal in the shady picnic areas while watching bouncing baboons or wily wallabies at play.

Take the Narangba exit from the Bruce Highway and park on-site or if you want to catch the train (Caboolture line), a complimentary bus operates daily between Dakabin train station and the zoo.

By the way an Brazilian Agouti is a guinea pig like rodent and a Himalayan Tahr is related to the wild goat.
