Who or what was Alma Doepel? The Alma Doepel is a three-masted topsail schooner, built in Bellingen, New South Wales in 1903. Originally her purpose was for a commercial working life. In the 1990's, she was restored to take on a new page in her history as a sail training vessel and currently is undergoing another full restoration to resume those latter duties.

On Sunday 6th May, you can visit the Victoria Remembers AK82 Exhibition for their open day and view from the wharf the restoration work to date on the Alma. Volunteers will be on hand during the day to provide tours of the workshed and to answer any questions and point out the techniques used by the shipwrights for the tasks that are required to be done.

While there, visit the Victoria Remembers AK82 Exhibition of maritime paintings which are on display. These are for sale. This exhibition is funded by the Victorian Government and staffed by volunteers. Entry is free to the exhibition and the work-shed.

Enjoy a sausage sizzle and drink from the tent outside the Visitor's Centre. A photographic history of the Alma and souvenirs are for sale at the Visitors Centre. The exhibition and viewing will be at Shed 2, North Wharf Road, Docklands, Victoria. Open from 10.00am to 4.00pm, this is an event that will interest all of the family. Any enquiries can be directed to 0419 986 606.

This event is organised by the National Trust and becoming a volunteer for the Trust is a worthy experience.
