Alligator Gorge at Mount Remarkable National Park

Situated on the eastern side of Mount Remarkable National Park , Alligator Gorge has its own unique elements, different to Mambray Creek. It features multiple bushwalking trails and geological landforms. Although the drive into the gorge can at times be a little challenging, the key is going slow on the very steep Alligator Gorge Road. Also be aware that this road is not suitable for caravans, trailers and buses.





There are two short and easy trails for any fitness level. The 400-metre Ali Lookout Walk will take you to a lookout for views of Alligator Gorge below, and the 600-metre Gorge Lookout Walk will bring you to another lookout for views of the Alligator Basin.



For those feeling energetic, head down approximately 250 steps to get into the gorge itself. Be mindful that these steps are steep as well as slippery when wet, so good sturdy shoes would be recommended. Once at the bottom, head right towards The Terraces and left towards The Narrows. Then, if you prefer not to climb back up those steps, follow the Gorge Circuit Hike trail that returns to the car park.





A harder hike within this section of the park will lead you along the full length of Alligator Gorge. You would need at least four hours to complete it. Also, hiking the whole 13 kilometres to Mambray Creek is possible too, for the truly adventurous, of course. This trail is best planned over two days if you're wanting to return to Alligator Gorge. Else, you could get someone to pick you up at Mambray Creek.
