The French Market Comes to Unley in November

The Alliance Franšaise French Market is a hugely popular annual market in Adelaide. Held in the Unley Soldiers' Memorial Gardens in the lead-up to Christmas, the French Market is more like a big party than your traditional markets.

Our French friends are renown for their delicious food and wines, but we rarely get an opportunity to indulge in such a variety of them in one place. Coupled with free entry, free entertainment, and free activities for kids - what else can compete?

The Alliance Franšaise French Market takes place Friday November 23 and Saturday November 24, and complements the Etsy Made Local community market on Oxford Terrace on the Saturday. The 2017 French Market had almost 11,000 visitors making it one of the most anticipated events in the Adelaide spring calendar. With more stalls, the 2018 market will be bigger and better than ever.

This year the French Market features stalls selling French and French-themed goods, including patisseries, cheeses, charcuterie, Beaujolais Nouveau, French linen and handicrafts, French language books, perfumes, Christmas gifts and more. Among the new stalls this year are La Raclette who will be providing delicious melted cheese dishes (you'll find me there), and the Belgian Beer CafÚ serving tasty mussels. At night the Soldiers' Memorial Gardens comes alive with bud lighting, stage performances and French wine.

The 2018 raffle has 17 fabulous prizes, including a return trip for two to France, a year of French classes at the Alliance Franšaise d'AdÚla´de, a VIP experience at the 2019 French Film Festival, Tefal cookware, a hamper of Avene and Klorane products, Womadelaide and So Frenchy So Chic passes, A reserve double passes to Madiba the Musical, French linen artisan aprons, gourmet baskets full of popular French products, and a case of French champagne.

Yes I agree Noel, the only difficult part is the wait - particularly on Friday. It pays to be early and have your pick of the lots :)

I have been several times.A lovely setting! Will consider going again. The feel is not entirely French..more like Aussie French...perhaps because there are not a lot of French people living in Adelaide. The food stalls are popular and a long wait can be expected. My grand daughter enjoyed being able to dance.A few more stalls will add to the fun...lack of space may be a problem in the future.
