Learning a second language has many benefits, but mostly it improves brain function and memory . People who are good at languages often excel in music too as both use the same part of the brain. Bilingual people have better memory and are good at retaining lists, sequences, names and directions. They are also able to concentrate longer and perform well academically in other areas including reading, vocabulary and maths.

Scientists believe that children are more susceptible to learning a new language in their first 10 years of life as the neurological and cognitive pathways in children's brains are developing.

Alliance Française is offering a series of workshops for children and teens this summer holidays, which are suitable for Anglophones and Francophones alike. Perfect for the children of French-speaking parents, bilingual children or kids interested in learning a second language.

For little's (4-6 year-olds) and bigger kids (7-11 years old) workshops are fun, and interactive and include tactile mess-around activities such as playdough, treasure hunt, songs, crafts and cooking activities all in French. Perfect for keeping little ones and bigger kids busy.

Teens (12-16 year-olds) will be able to practice their French in a fun and conversational atmosphere with workshops in scrapbooking and creating fake news.

Reinforcement courses are available for year 11 and 12 students taking the ATAR French exam helping students immerse in the French language and refresh their knowledge before heading back to school. Immersion is always the quickest and easiest way to learn a second language.
