It's not often we are presented with a second chance in life but here is one you cannot afford to miss out on. Alliance Française de Brisbane has organised an exclusive advanced screening of the delightful film, The Midwife (La Sage femme) . If you missed this heart-warmingly funny picture when it screened during this year's French Film Festival then take this second chance and don't miss it again. If you did catch it earlier then here's a second chance to see it again.

This exclusive advanced screening of The Midwife is proudly co-hosted by Alliance Française and Palace Cinemas at the newly renovated and very recently renamed Palace James Street – formerly the Palace Centro.

This wonderful once only event is being held on Tuesday, 24 October, 2017 at the Palace James Street (Palace Centro), 39 James Street, Fortitude Valley commencing at 6.15pm with a pre-screening party where you will enjoy a glass of fine French wine to wash down a delicious selection of French cheeses. The movie then commences at 7.00pm.

Tickets for this special event can be obtained on-line here and include wine and cheese tasting and the film. They are priced at $20 for Alliance Francaise members and $25 for non-members.

This is all set to be a wonderful evening of fun and laughter with France's two leading actresses Catherine Deneuve and Catherine Frot in this much-anticipated new film from Cesar-winning writer/director Martin Provost.

The Midwife is a very touching tale of two singular and strong women and a celebration of two of French cinema's most beloved stars. You will meet the gifted midwife, Claire (Frot) who has led a quiet, focused life, dedicated to her profession and to the raising of her son as a single mother. Her life is about to change with the local community maternity ward, where she has worked for decades, about to close. Claire already has a job offer from a large corporate clinic but she struggles to reconcile their more efficiency-driven methods with her own.

In the midst of this upheava,l she becomes reacquainted with Béatrice (Deneuve), the extravagant mistress of her deceased father. Béatrice is free-spirited, loud, vivacious and seemingly able to live without guilt. She wants to meet Claire again thirty years after she disappeared without a trace. Although Claire agrees to the meeting she is decidedly less than enthusiastic about delving into the secrets of the past, let alone responding to a plea for help.

Writer/director, Provost, who has made a name for himself with indelible portraits of women, reaches new heights with this exquisite depiction of feminine strengths and frailties. The Midwife is a memorable and moving story that questions the value of change in as much depth as it seeks to answer whether steak, chips and red wine can really be considered a healthy lunch.

The Midwife has been filmed in French with English subtitles.

What an opportunity! If you saw it last time, here is a second chance to enjoy the movie all over again. And if you missed it earlier this year, then grab this second chance and don't miss it again – you will be glad you did.
