The brief was to find accommodation in Daylesford for three adults and two dogs, for two nights. I thought it would be difficult to find something suitable, but happily, we found Allendayle Cottage, and our problems were solved.

On arrival we found a neat, well maintained and nicely furnished two bedroom cottage. There is a reasonable sized lounge/dining area, complete with two leather couches, and a well appointed kitchen, which was well set up to self cater.

Importantly (for winter anyway!), there is both a split system air conditioning unit, and a slow combustion wood fire, ensuring the living area and bedrooms (which run off the lounge room) were soon toasty warm. There were also electric blankets on the beds.

The configuration is that there are two bedrooms, one with a queen sized bed, the other with two single beds, meaning it would also be suitable for a family.

There is a big bathroom, with a two person spa. The bathroom had a separate heater.

If you were visiting in warmer weather, there is also a deck and a barbecue.

What particularly impressed me about Allendayle Cottage is the thought that had gone into making it pet friendly. First, there is a secure, fenced backyard. The fence height means it would be suitable only for small dogs. The yard is big enough for dogs to run around a bit and chase a ball. Food/water bowls are provided, as is a 'pooper scooper'. There was also some soda water and paper towels for 'accidents'.

I also liked the location. Allendayle Cottage is located two streets away from central Vincent Street (not too far from Lake Daylesford), so it was a quiet location, yet you could easily walk to the main strip in about 5 minutes.

I greatly enjoyed my stay at Allendayle Cottage and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Note the minimum stay is two nights (three nights for public holiday weekends, Easter and Christmas). Prices range from $160 - $190 per night. There is currently a mid-week special: $130 per night for two people (three night minimum). Bookings can be made online .

While you're in Daylesford, I also recommend a visit to the Amazing Mill Market .
