Your first port of call might be the Bendigo Visitor Centre, located in the former post-office building in the heart of Bendigo. The helpful staff can assist you with planning an itinerary and booking tours for everything you want to see in Bendigo and the surrounding district. If you're looking for a weekend away with something to do, it is worth keeping in mind some of the major annual events that draw people to Bendigo. It is wise to book your accommodation well in advance as major events often coincide with smaller events on the same weekends.

Bendigo National Swap Meet, held annually in November, is for the vintage car enthusiast who is seeking anything and everything. A huge car-part swap meet held at the Prince of Wales Showgrounds in Bendigo.

Bendigo Easter Festival, a long weekend full of events that pay homage to Bendigo's Chinese heritage. The Festival culminates with the parade on Easter Monday, which concludes with the majestic Sun Loong, longest Imperial Dragon in the world, weaving his way through people-lined streets. Sun Loong rests at the Golden Dragon Museum in Bendigo for the remainder of the year.

Bendigo International Madison, held on the Labour Day weekend in March, is an annual cycling event that draws Australian and international cyclists and cycling enthusiasts to the Tom Flood Sports Centre in Bendigo. Cycling Victoria has a calendar that lists cycling events held in Bendigo during the year.

The Australia Sheep and Wool Show is held annually in July at the Prince of Wales Showgrounds in Bendigo. A weekend national event that focuses on all facets of Australian wool and other natural fibres. The Show offers plenty to interest the whole family.

The inaugural event of the Bendigo Writers Festival was held in August 2012 at the Capital in Bendigo and will continue as an annual event.

Bendigo Wealth Heritage Uncorked (October), the World's Longest Lunch - Bendigo (March), and Strategem Wine Festival (Easter Sunday) are weekend events that focus on food and wine produced in and around Bendigo.
