I am a mum of two and Primary School teacher whose aim is to never be home during the midday movie. I believe that I am only ever a car trip away from an adventure.

Paint and create your own ceramic masterpiece
Every school holidays my daughters put a visit to All Fired Up as one of the main activities on their " wish list." We have been going for a couple of years now and it is always a highlight and an experience they treasure. We have shelves adorned with little ceramic creations, picked, painted, fired and glazed till they shine. Elephants, owls and penguins, trinket boxes, bugs and egg cups.
Fun for everyone
All Fired Up is located on Hampton Street positioned neatly between the local primary school, some thrift shops and a handful of lovely cafes. The staff are helpful and accommodating and go out of their way to make your experience a positive one. They explain the procedure carefully and guide you towards the myriad of tools around to help inspire and unleash the creative flair of children, and adults too for that matter.
Lots of potential masterpieces to choose from here.
The process is simple. You book a table (it can get very busy, particularly over school holidays), you choose a ceramic piece which has a price underneath and then you sit down with paint pots, palettes and brushes ready to begin. Light colours go on before dark ones as you can't paint over dark shades if you change your mind, and three coats will result in a streak free and shiny masterpiece, perfect for any bedside table or mantle.
Numbered paint pots help you make the best colour choice.
But of course it doesn't stop there. You can add stickers, use sponges and stamps, draw on designs, use dot paints, the list of ideas is endless and this is a safe and cheerful environment to try new things, or just paint the time away. And it's not just for kids either, grown ups are encouraged to have a go. You may find yourself engrossed in your own painting and create a brilliant piece to show off or to give away as the ultimate personal gift.
Of course if the idea of painting in front of an audience of littlies seems intimidating, you can always attend one of their "Paint by Candlelight" nights specifically designed for big people and are held every 3rd Thursday from 6:30. You can bring your friends, a platter and even a sneaky bottle of wine. Make sure you book to avoid disappointment.
All Fired Up also serves its own range of cafe delights, coffee, milkshakes and creamy spiders, which are a huge hit. They stock a small range of food such as cookies and chips and all at family friendly prices, or bring your own snacks, you could be there a while. They can cater for birthday parties, hosted in a back room, which we can personally vouch for as my daughter celebrated her 7th birthday there a year back. The kids loved it and were so excited when I returned their artwork to them a week later. It really is a great way to "drag out" a birthday.
The creamy spiders here are really good.
And that's the final step here at All Fired Up. You leave your item behind and the staff will fire it and make it look like a treat. And if an unfortunate accident or breakage should occur (again we have experience with this, too) they will glue with precision to help put it back together, alas this is not always the case but my 5 year old was thrilled when her baby owl survived with only a few battle scars. You then return a week later to pick up your goodies and taadaa. It's such a joy when those little eyes see the final result for the first time.
These guys will be shiny and bright after going into the kiln. We will pick them up in a week's time, can't wait
