It led me to think about the colour orange in my life and whilst I love all colours I don't have much that is orange. No orange clothes, no orange souvenirs from all my travels. In fact the only thing I could find was an orange Halloween candle.
It's not that I don't like orange. Perhaps it's just not as popular a colour as blue or red and products are not marketed so much in orange but orange is a bright colour and it does come in beautiful things. There are sunsets, flowers and the monarch butterfly. The latter I found below in the recent Mega Bugs display at the Hunter Valley Gardens; an animatronic one where the wings moved up and down. In real life if you want to see these colourful butterflies and other species in Sydney then head to Sydney Wildlife World at Darling Harbour and check out the butterfly habitat.
An orange favourite of mine is Nemo and I recently found him happily hiding out in Sydney's Sea Life Aquarium at Darling Harbour on a recent trip to experience Hijinks, a special after hours adults only event. Did you know that Clownfish are born as males but can change their sex to female and reproduce? Interesting and true fact.
Event-wise, there is Taste Orange @ Sydney on in August. Martin Place is the venue and you get to experience produce and wine from the Orange region. You're sure to see some orange colour here and not just in the name of the event.
In buildings, the interior of the Concert Hall at Sydney's Opera House is magnificently orange. It has a cathedral-like ambience with wooden panelling and outstanding acoustics. It's a spectacular venue that is home to Australian orchestras and choirs as well as drawing in pop stars and rock bands.
There's orange in street art and mosaics at Newtown, Leichhardt and beyond. Go exploring and you'll find some impressive works.
So what else is orange? Pumpkins, carrots, paprika, goulash soup, marmalade, Sunny Boys, the lovable Garfield, autumn leaves, traffic cones, coral, fire and tigers. Art of Gelato Michelangelo at Carramar do a blood orange gelato which is delicious.
Get into orange and make it rule. See how many things you can spot in Sydney that are orange, whether it's a bridge or a children's playground, and let me know by way of the comments box below.
