5 Stars - Great day with lovely people
If you want a stress free Barossa Valley wine tour, than look no further than All Aboard Minibus Tour. The father and son duo, Nathan and Bob, are fun, relaxed and accommodating to the needs of the party. For only $50, your group could enjoys beautiful day out in the Barossa Valley.
All Aboard Minibus Tours is a family-owned business. They have 13, 20 and 24 seated minibuses. They charge $50 per head to take a group of 10-13 people out for 9 hours. They will pick guests up and drop them home from a pre-discussed location and only ask for $100 deposit at the time of booking. The further $400 (10 people) - $550 (13 people) is then paid by cash on the day or 3 days prior via bank transfer.
Nathan helped me organise a double birthday wine tour for myself and my mother, Jodie, for September 15th 2018. He liaised back and forward with me via email as we discussed possible wineries to visit and timings for each spot. From here I contacted the wineries and began to set up my preferred tour. Nathan contacted me a few days before to let me know I could bring my own music, so I went ahead and set up a 'Wine Tour' playlist on Spotify.
The options were endless with the wineries in Barossa Valley, so picking just 5 spots was hard to do. I thought about my group, their age was between 21 and 53 years and I picked wineries with a range of tasting fees, so everyone wasn't paying a lot on the day. Please note $50 per head to All Aboard Minibuses doesn't include tasting fees. Tasting fees are redeemable on purchases.
Barossa Valley Itinerary 10:00am Penfolds ($10 tasting fee)
11:00am Kellimeister ($10 tasting fee) 12:00pm Grant Burge Wines ($5 tasting fee) 12:45pm - 2:15pm Lunch at Barossa Valley Brewing ($25) 2:30pm Wolf Blass ($5 tasting fee)
We attended Barossa Valley Brewing for lunch, where I preorganised wood oven pizzas to share, costing $15 per person which worked out to be half a pizza per person. A wine tour with All Aboard Minibus involves three wineries in the morning, followed by lunch and two wineries after lunch - a total of 6 stops, however, we only attended five at my request.
We found the day ran smoothly and most people were there to help. We loved our host at Penfolds, he was informative and spent time discussing each wine before we tasted it. We bought a lot from this winery.
Kellimeister had very smooth tasting wines but we all complained as it wasn't enough to taste. The host put another group ahead of us. We pre-booked months in advance for our group of 10 and I rang a week ahead of time to let them know my group had extended to 11 people. When we arrived, we were forced to wait as a group walked in without booking and were given priority. At one point, a bottle ran out before finishing to fill the last glass and a new bottle never came. We had to ask three times for a Moscato to be added to the tasting as one lady in our group didn't drink red and we wanted to accommodate her. We didn't buy another head purely because of the service, the wine itself was lovely and we even tasted an $85 bottle.
Grant Burge Wines is a beautiful location and host Libran Jodi was very accommodating. She asked what we liked, made suggestions and gave generous tastings and even second tastings. We all bought from this winery and couldn't say more encouraging things about our lovely host. We would definitely return and tell our friends.
Wolf Blass was chosen on this tour purely because people already love to drink their wine. We aren't strangers to their Red Label but got to enjoy some of their Gold Label products which we bought and would buy again. The host was helpful and moved through the ranges getting more full bodies as the tasting continued - she knew what she was talking about.
On All Aboard Minibuses, Bob was a lot of fun and let us sing throughout the drive. Our group was so impressed with him that we did something no group has done before. We hit play on our playlist and sang loud to 'Bob the Builder' changing the words to 'Bob the Driver'.
As the day came to a close, we arrived back to Blakeview at 4pm where my group proceeded to kick on. The ladies asked for Bob's card after finding out he also does weddings and hens nights. 5 stars - we couldn't be more impressed with how the day turned out and I have received a lot of praise from the women in my group who had a lot of fun on the day. I would definitely recommend All Aboard Minibus Tours and Bob and Nathan for tour travel needs - I will definitely be calling them again soon.
