Another of the highlights for me so far at this year's Perth Fringe Festival has been Alistair Barrie's show, No More Stage 3. I first saw him at one of the Best of the Best performances at Connections Nightclub, and I was sufficiently impressed with the few minutes he had on stage to seek out his main show.
I wasn't disappointed. I think it says something about his measure as a human being as much as a comedian that he has managed to draw on what must have been an incredibly challenging year for him, and present a show that is both funny and poignant. Without giving anything away, Alistair's life rode a roller coaster of the highs of falling in love and getting married, to his wife being diagnosed with Stage Three Breast Cancer shortly afterward.
Alistair manages to see the funny side of a dysfunctional and inadequate health system, and shares some delicate moments about what is really a wonderful love story as he and his wife manage to navigate through the barriers and challenges of her treatment. If you like very personal topical comedy that makes you think as well as laugh, then you should love this show.
