Don't Panic Ali-Oop's to the rescue
The English word "panic" describes a state of extreme fear that renders one unable to think or act rationally.

It entered into the English language during the early 1600s via the French word "panique".In turn, French gained the word by borrowing the Greek word "panikon" which literally means "pertaining to Pan". Pan, the Greek god who presided over nature, wilderness, as well as shepherds and their flocks, was considered responsible for the mysterious and unidentifiable sounds one hears while out in the wild. As such, that rustle or animal cry that sends your heart racing and you in turn running through the forest in fear is "of Pan" and the source of your panic.

From experience, tears do not necessarily follow "panic". I know this for certain as when I recently collected the special outfit from the dressmaker that was to make me look taller, younger and thinner for my daughter's wedding I am adamant that I resembled a Fisher and Pykel washing machine.

Calling upon all my forefathers' Depression survival instincts I ambled into Ali-Oop's Boutique, which only opened a few months ago, at 119 Bloomfield Street, Cleveland, next door to the Bank of Queensland.

shopfront

Ali-Oop's is only a little store in appearance, but upon entering you discover that it is big in treasures.

Firstly, this store caters for sizes 8-24, and is full to the brim with women's clothing, from casual wear to formal and special occasions. All clothing items have been selected on the basis that they are the creations of Australian designers. Even those items manufactured overseas are made to the specifications of the designers.

There are so many outfits of so many varieties that it is at first all a bit daunting. Allison, however, with her quiet charm knows exactly where every item is in the shop and with her many years in the trade can offer practical and knowledgeable suggestions. The selection of formal wear was amazing and I was able to replace my white goods dress with ease.

more treasures

Along one wall is a display of jewellery that would jazz up any outfit. A special call out to those who don't have pierced ears for whatever reason: Ali-Oop's Boutique carries an extensive range of clip-on earrings.

Necklaces and bracelets range from funky to formal and I like that they would be light to post as Christmas gifts.

With the wide variety of party and racing frocks on offer Ali-Oops also carries a selection of fascinators and hats.

Did I mention the shoe display? The range isn't huge , but every shoe has been selected to perfectly value-add to an outfit, and they are all so very pretty (even to those of us who grew up barefoot!)

shoes and cute outfit

If you hunt around you'll even find a few hand bags and colourful scarves.

Ali-Oop's is a bit of an Alladin's Cave really. It is full to the brim with lovely things that you wont find at the local shopping mall.

I'm no clothes horse - never been the right shape nor had the interest - though I most certainly appreciate that I no longer have to travel into Brisbane City to find that perfect outfit.
