2 Top Things in Alexandria - Sydney Park & The Grounds
Alexandria is not an area that I get around to very often. However when I do go, it is mainly to visit two gorgeous places - Sydney Park and The Grounds of Alexandria. These two places totally complement each other. Together, they are perfect for a weekend outing, or really, a wind-down at anytime through the week.

Sydney Park is a sprawling park with green rolling hills that have beautiful views of Sydney city, the coast, the airport, and the area around Wolli Creek and Tempe. It borders a few suburbs. You'll find the famous, historic chimney towers and former brick-work site on the St. Peters end. Then as you head toward Alexandria, you will find nice walkways through stretches of greenery, a cricket field, and a cute learn-to-cycle facility for kids, among other things. There are lots of lovely spots for you to meander across and chill out on through the park. For more photos and info check out my other article purely on Sydney Park.

The Grounds of Alexandria
The Grounds of Alexandria is so much more than your average cafe. It is a market-place. It is a garden. It is a little bit of industrial, a little bit of farm, and a little bit of city fused together in an artistic way. It is a small village. It is a research facility for coffee. It is a bakery. It is delicious and fresh. It is an array of beautiful things that have come together in the midst of Alexandria. And this is why a visit here is imperative.
Artistic detail has been carefully crafted everywhere in The Grounds. From the landscape, to the outdoor and interior decor, to the intricate arrangement of meals on plates. It always seem to have a busy and upmarket vibe - lots of people and buzz have been present upon each of my visits.
Brunch - avocado & other goodies on sourdough, and granola with milk, yoghurt and fruit served on a board.
Lunch - salmon salad and freshly crushed apple cider.
Note the details in the presentation of the meals. These are made from fine, fresh produce, and the natural flavours of each ingredient used is to be savoured. I was surprised at just how fresh and fragrant the flavour of each bite was - and of each sip of drink too!
The coffee here is also absolutely amazing. This is no surprise as The Grounds has a strong focus on the art and science of coffee. Beans have come from all around the world (Brazil, Colombia, & Ethiopia are a few examples) and are roasted on-site. They are then put through specially tailored blends and filters, with the end-product, the unique and aromatic coffees available for you to sip on.
The Grounds is open from 7am-4pm Monday-Friday, and 7.30am-4pm Saturdays and Sundays.
Make sure you take a wander through the lovely garden full of flowers, fresh veggies and fragrant herbs that are used in the cafe's dishes. Also be sure to say hello to their friends in the on-site petting zoo located within the garden.
A walk and chill-out in Sydney Park plus a meal and coffee at The Grounds of Alexandria is to me, a perfect way to spend your free time. Both of these places are a nice stroll from St. Peters train station for those of you, like myself, that don't drive. I hope that you find these two spots together a pleasant and rather indulgent experience, just as I have.
Thanks Telani, The park is nice, and so is the cafe. Great date idea too. Next door is also an interesting deli/groceries store called Salt. They have a vast quantity of international foods. Their Chorizos are the best. Cheers
