A short distance from the main hub of Leura is the Alexandra Hotel , a wonderful pub with fabulous mountain views.

This was our third dining experience during our two day visit to the gorgeous Blue Mountains. We'd already eaten our way through Pins on Lurline and Café Madeleine with gusto. Could the live up to our increasingly high expectations of what Leura offers in local eateries? Yes, it did.

We drove the short distance from our accommodation at Waldorf Leura Gardens Resort , over the bridge, stopping just short of the Great Western Highway and into the grounds of the hotel. The Alexandra has an indoor seating area and an outdoor courtyard.

During our meal, there were two commuter trains and a goods train passing by, yet the noise was minimal. We arrived for dinner at 6.30 pm and there was a steady increase in customers for the next two hours. But I digress from the main reason for our visit to the Alexandra. The four of us love our pub food. With teenagers, their pickier tastes must be considered to have a relaxed meal for the whole family. We considered more upmarket establishments to splurge on but we have found from past experience that pubs often have tasty fare to suit the most finicky of eaters.

My two teens each ordered burgers – the steak burger with bacon, onion, cheese and a delicious horseradish mayonnaise.

The other was the 'Alex' burger with juicy pork and beef, bacon, onion, cheese and relish. Both were amazing burgers.

My husband chose a tender chicken thigh stuffed with dates and pistachios in a red wine sauce. It was fantastic.

I chose the pork encrusted in nuts with sage and dijon sauce. The flavours were marvellous.

Then, predictably on this Leura escape, desserts were ordered. It was a difficult choice but as we had over-indulged at Café Madeleine in the afternoon, we ordered two desserts to share. One dessert was for those who like their 'chocolate hit'. It was a white chocolate and milk chocolate mousse with loads of cream and chocolate shavings.

The other was a superb trifle with lashings of cream and icecream and a berry sauce drizzled throughout to add a wow factor.

What a stunning end to our meal and a magnificent end to the day.
