My husband and I were on the look out for breakfast this rainy Saturday morning and noted that this smallish place seemed to be buzzing. As they say, if it looks busy, then it must be good.
So breakfast it was, at Alcove Cafe and Deli. They have outdoor seating which is undercover and sheltered from the elements. We were greeted by extremely friendly staff who promptly showed us where we could sit and we had menus and glasses of water on our table in no time.
The menu looked very interesting and mouth-watering with a large variety of freshly cooked dishes for breakfast and lunch. The menu enticed both my husband and I to choose dishes outside of our normal comfort zone, even though the smashed avocados and feta on sourdough was calling my name.
I decided to go for the Beets and Greens which was a delicious plate of balsamic roasted beetroots, artichokes, spinach, pine nuts and goats cheese topped with salsa verde served with a quinoa and bean patty and poached eggs. All of this for $18.90. And it tasted as good as it looked.
My husband ventured to try the Italian eggs which was slow cooked Italian sausages in a rich tomato sauce with poached eggs and sourdough for $17.90. He was pleasantly surprised at how good it was.
Alcove Cafe and Deli is open for both breakfast and lunch and the breakfast is served all day from 6am to 2pm. They also have an array of speciality drinks and serve beer, cider, wine and bubbly for those wanting something extra special to go with their meals.
The decor is down to earth with the table and chairs made from recycled timber and, as I mentioned above, the staff are very friendly which creates a casual and cosy atmosphere. Customers with fur babies are also welcomed, making it very family friendly.
We would be very happy to come back and try some of the other interesting menu options another time.
