If you're searching for a little sophistication combined with exceptional food and drink, then perhaps a trip to this restaurant come bar on the corner of Albert Street and the bustling Sydney Road is right down your street.
On entering you'll see that they do indeed take their wine pretty seriously. There are vast amounts of it on display behind the bar and a more than generous drinks list. With over two hundred wines on offer, many produced locally in Victoria; it will take a while to study.
The menu provides plenty of options for those ranging from peckish to famished. The ingredients used to create the modern Mediterranean style dishes are mostly seasonal and always high quality. There are also daily specials, which I had listed to me by a friendly waitress. Although her ability to remember the long list of options was impressive, I was completely unable to; therefore a written menu would have been a better idea.
Meals here are carefully prepared and beautifully presented and there's always someone on hand to advise you which wine would best accompany your food. The Charcuterie offers a premium selection of tasty meat, cheese, vegetables and bread and the Spanner Crab Risotto with Pine Mushrooms and Chestnuts is an essential winter indulgence.
On top of this, if you're feeling inspired to try and cook up your own feast at home, there is a store attached to the bar where you can purchase a range of produce. However, personally I'd rather it was cooked up for me next door.
So if you fancy an upmarket eating and drinking experience in Brunswick, Albert Street Food and Wine Bar is an excellent choice. The establishment has successfully found a niche in the market despite the abundance of restaurants and cafes in this suburb. It's popularity is no coincidence, this place is certainly worth a visit.
