'Alan Jones: Paper and Wood - Collecting Ideas' at Maitland Regional Art Gallery

This Summer, the Maitland Regional Art Gallery is proudly hosting a brand new exhibition which showcases a range of works created by multi-award winning Sydney based artist Alan Jones.

Dubbed 'Paper and Wood - Collecting Ideas', this free exhibition will run from Friday 13th of December, 2013 to Sunday, 23rd of February, 2014. It is comprised of Jones' rarely-seen drawings, sketchbooks and sculptures and comes off the back of his recent solo show, 'Album Paintings', at The Cat Street Gallery in Hong Kong.



Jones' works are often inspired by the themes of culture, heritage and identity and as the exhibition name suggests, visitors will be able to explore the artist's journey, from the moment of creative inspiration to formed works and concepts.
'Paper and Wood - Collecting Ideas' will appeal to both budding artists and art enthusiasts as there will be a wide and diverse range of items exhibited; from Jones' series of unique self-portraits, to photographs of his unique and colourful sculpture series of large heads - The Joneses.



To complement the opening of 'Paper and Wood - Collecting Ideas' is a free 'Opening Celebration' event on Saturday 14th of December 2013 from 3pm.

All are invited to attend this free event; come along and peruse Alan Jones' exhibition, as well as 3 other anticipated exhibitions opening at Maitland Regional Art Gallery on Friday 13th of December 2013; 'Beauty From Nature: Art of the Scott Sisters'; 'Barbara Licha: Chaos and Order - Urbanised '; and 'Exposed from the MRAG collection'.

An enlightening 'Artist Talk' event will also be held on Sunday 15th December at 11am; this will be a great opportunity to meet Alan Jones and learn more about the creative process. This event is free to attend; to make a booking please contact the Gallery on 02 4934 9859.
