Aladdin swooped in on his magic carpet recently to deliver antique hungry individuals an array of vintage fares. Aladdins Fair is held four times a year on a Sunday at Downey Park Table Tennis Association Hall.

On my approach I can see a jostling line of antique enthusiasts clutching their empty canvas bags in the hopes of finding a covetable collectable. The entry fee paled in comparison to the chance of uncovering a vintage gem, not to mention the lucky door prize gift vouchers.

Once inside, the allure of antiques and collectables is overwhelming. I am witness to a room full of crockery, silverwares, jewels, books, clothes, textiles, figurines, and anything in between. It is a tough start, as each way down the maze of tables looks equally inviting. I start on the right, worming my way down the aisles like Pac-man, drawn to the tea cup sets, the vintage lingerie, and the costume jewellery. Others beside me clamber for unopened Postman Pat dolls, gold fob watches, and pearl hat pins.

Any style, era or material is here beckoning the antique and collectable enthusiasts alike. There are plenty of stalls willing to bargain and negotiate; likewise there are some steadfast sellers whom you can't quite believe when they say everything has got to go. Some sellers are focused on particular items, whilst others have a plethora of choices for the masses.

Each item has a story and history that antique sellers and buyers fall in love with. It is easy to get caught up in the beauty as even a John Wayne watch complete with ticking colt gun can have you contemplating the need for a third watch.

I soon found my nerves unsettled so I sought refuge in the canteen which offered delicious sandwiches, sweets, and strong coffee, while glass walls encouraged me to oversee the hive of activity.

At the end of the day I left with a citrine ring, pearl bracelet, sixties lingerie set, and flared denim pants. I have thoroughly enjoyed my day stepping back in time - my only concern was whether I had bargained hard enough to deserve the mouth-watering piece of mud-cake.

Aladdin's Antique and Collectable fair is held at The Table Tennis Association Hall, 86 Green Terrace, Windsor. Entry is $5 with accompanying children free.
