A waterfront approach to winding down with family and friends
Two things make a leisure spot a hit its location and variety of activities. The beautifully landscaped Al Majaz Waterfront proves to be a complete outdoor recreational area for families and friends. This recently completed family park lines the southern end of Sharjah's Buheirah Corniche and overlooks the Flag Island.

Parents welcome a much awaited breather thanks to the plenty of fun activities catered to children of different ages. A children's activity centre keeps them busy interacting with others their age through art and craft and games while the more energetic ones release adrenalin at the Splash Park soaking in the many creatively designed water cascades.

Teens, tweens and young adults are usually spotted catching up on a gossip session over coffee or ice cream at Tim Horton's and Cold Stone. Designated picnic spots are filled with families especially towards the evening when the temperature is cooler. And if you're in no mood to pack a basket, choose from the restaurants that are dotted around the park which include some well known fares like Fat Burger and TGI Friday's. Looking to work up a sweat? Don those running shoes and take a trot around the jogging track that snakes through the park.

Don't be surprised by the music that suddenly booms out from the speakers hidden in the bushes during the evenings. It's time you witnessed the crowning glory of the waterfont park - the psychedelic dancing water fountains that spray up a few feet away in the gently swaying waters of the Corniche. Check the park's information kiosk for show schedules of the 'water screen' which is a treat that outdoes a trip to the cinema.

Even though situated close to high rise residences, this comfortable-sized park doesn't get overcrowded owing in part to the car entrance fees. Due to the proximity to the water, the humidity may put a damper on your spirits. Just be sure to check the temperature before heading out in the day time during warmer months, or stick to the evenings.
