is one of the outlets in David Jones' Food Court in Rundle Mall. As its name suggests, the store specialises in Japanese cuisine. When you make your order, the staff gives you a buzzer which will go off when your food is ready. The dishes we ordered were the Tendon, Karaage Chicken Don, Chicken Karaage Udon, Okonomiyaki and Takoyaki.

Tendon is one of the varieties of Donburi, also known as 'rice bowl dish', which features tempura topping on top of a bowl of rice. The Tendon bowl had two large pieces of prawn and sweet potato that was fried to golden brown with a small amount of sauce helping to lift their flavour. It was also accompanied with a fresh salad that added a bit of crunch and a refreshing element to the dish.

Karaage Chicken Don is another of the Donburi dishes, this time with a topping of Karaage Chicken instead of the tempura prawn and sweet potato featured in the Tendon. The chicken was cooked just right and while the ginger flavour we associated with Karaage is not as strong as we had hoped, it still had enough flavour to make it delectable. Just like the Tendon, the chicken came on a bed of fresh salad with a drizzle of Japanese mayonnaise.

The udon noodles in the Chicken Karaage Udon were cooked to al dente with the broth enhancing the flavour of the noodles without being too salty. The Karaage Chicken was done as well as the one in their Donburi dish and it was smart of them to present the chicken separately from the udon noodles so the soup does not mar its crispy coating.

We were able to order their Okonomiyaki and Takoyaki as a 'Street Food Combo', which consists of the two aforementioned dishes with a either a soft drink or a 'marble' soda. The 'marble' soda is known as Ramune in Japan, which refers to the process of sealing a glass bottle with a marble which is popped down with a device at the neck to open it. Both the Okonomiyaki and Takoyaki were cooked to perfection, with the Takoyaki having a slightly chewy texture from the pieces of octopus encased in the batter. However we thought the Okonomiyaki needed a bit more Okonomiyaki sauce to make it more delicious.

David Jones' Food Court was renovated extensively and has a nicer ambience than the average food court. Ample amount of off-street parking is available in the car park complex located next to the David Jones Shopping Centre.
