I met up with Mum for lunch in the city last Friday. I don't work in the CBD so I haven't really been to that many coffee shops. We decided to go to Aja Coffee House in the Elizabeth Arcade. I'd been there once before and thought the food was pretty good. We ordered pumpkin salad, salt and pepper calamari, and two skinny flat whites.
The food was great! They were generous servings (Mum and I came out with fat bellies afterwards). The dressing on the pumpkin salad wasn't your usual dressing with balsamic vinegar, it was different and delicious. The salt and pepper calamari was light and crispy (didn't seem like they were fried at all). They came with a very simple salad and shoe string chips accompanied by what looked like homemade aioli. One interesting thing about the chips was that it was sprinkled with curry powder and what we did not realise was how moreish they were. Mum and I nibbled on it while we chatted and before we knew it, we'd finished it all!
The coffees were good, thought next time I think I'll ask for extra hot as ours were lukewarm. They were quite busy and we were told that we had to go before 1pm as the tables had been booked. The staff were all quite friendly and we had a great time. It's a good place to chill out in the CBD.
