is an enjoyable, charming, quirky and reliable place for good views, good hospitality and so that made for a great stay. It's high on a hill on Lamond Street, overlooking the rest of the Airlie Beach suburb or village of the Whitsunday Coast area. The area is geared for tourism - it's made for tourists, from location to planning to putting this into practice. It's a lovely place to get some tropical sun, see the reef, hike, swim ... anything you think is possible in a tropical island paradise.

is not family-friendly but is great for solo and couple travellers. It has no pool either but my summary of the place is it is a great concept for accommodation because Mick and Megan, who run the place, are constantly working at making the stay memorable for their guests. I must admit, I was impressed that proverbial lightbulb of being satisfied with my stay versus review based expectations was switched well and truly on, in other words, I'd seen enough in the most positive way possible, it had indeed **lived up to its impressive billing.

In saying that, there's no ensuite, so it's more like Airbnb - it's guest house accommodation, essentially a creative BnB and the concept is executed with perfection. On the other hand, there is a laundry, so easy to access. Manager/owner Mick got me a shuttle bus from Proserpine Airport that I could pay for with a credit card at the guest house, and then offered to turn up at the guest house early to assist me in making sure I get to my Whitehaven Beach cruise early in the morning. That's committing to a 6.15 AM text message from me all on his own initiative and that to me shows something very hospitable.

The place has the right type of everything - it had a humble side to it, in that the hospitality was very genuine and caring. It had a positive vibe to the place; it is personable, it's creative and a great place to stay at Airlie Beach for solo travellers and couples. I got the impression Mick could organise anything, at least tour-related or stay-related, provided it was reasonable. He had a great system in the kitchens on both floors and the place had other subtleties and functioned superbly throughout.

Just the way Mick tried to go out of his way to make the stay better, and, the fact he had contacts in the town meant he could get the best price for tours and book it all on your hotel account - saves dealing with third parties. I could say, for example, that Mick organised my airport transfer via Heart of the Reef , and the price he got was the cheapest I had seen advertised, but the service was good and, gave good description of how to find the Heart of the Reef desk at Proserpine Airport.

By all means, call the guesthouse for more details, log onto the corporate pages , or book via a site such as Booking.com for a memorable stay and good for the peaceful feeling, or should I say useful for the spirit! Take a break in paradise at your own pace and book today at and Airlie Beach.
