He's the voice of a generation that has become a household name over the decades: John Farnham aka "Farnsy" is an Aussie national treasure and music legend who's countless 80s hits live on to this very day.
If you think you're Farnsy's biggest fan, think again: you haven't met Stephen Valeri just yet. Hailing from Melbourne (the same city John moved to in 1959, Stephen will have you know), the talented singer/actor/"interpretive dancer" has christened himself the biggest Farnsy Fanatic in Australia – and maybe even the world.
To prove just how dedicated he is to The Voice himself, Stephen has created Age of Stephen: 60-minute-long comedy-meets-cabaret spectacular that acts as his Farnsy shrine in musical form. Armed with a flip chart and plenty of Sharpies, Stephen takes audiences on an educational journey through ten "Farnsy Facts" – aka the reasons why he and John share a spiritual connection.
Between hilarious comedy skits involving a comparison of Stephen and John's childhood photos, Stephen lets his gutsy vocals shine in covers of all your old and new(ish) John Farnham hits. From his early works such as Sadie the Cleaning Lady, to his 80s bangers like Two Strong Hearts and Age of Reason (notice the pun in the show's title now?) – Stephen injects a ferocious passion into his covers of an endless array of Farnsy's timeless classics that are sure to get audiences clapping and humming along.
The musical spectacular even includes an exclusive cameo from "The Voice" himself – until he snatches his wig off to reveal he is, in fact, Stephen Valeri (who he promises is the next best thing!) Joining Stephen on-stage are Kelli-Anne Kimber who is quick on the keys and delivers enchanting backing vocals, whilst Caleb Garfinkel rocks out on guitar and belts out the occasional backing vocals too.
For some, it will be a blast to the past as the nostalgia hits and you know every single lyric to every single song. For others, it will be a musical education that your parents, grandparents, aunties and uncles should have given you long ago. Either way, Age of Stephen is a feel-good tribute that celebrates the life, times and talents of the man, the myth and the legend that is John Farnham.
Stephen Valeri sung his heart out in Age of Stephen for a trio of exclusive performances in The Balcony Room at The Griffins Hotel between Thursday 7 March – Saturday 9 March.
