Bring the whole family down to Little Bayside Park, Manly on Saturday 23rd November from 5 - 8:30pm to enjoy of evening of free jazz and film to celebrate the fishermen of Moreton Bay.
[ADVERT]30 years ago Wynnum Creek was the bustling centre of Moreton Bay's fishing industry, and had been for generations. The fishermen were heroes; courageous men with a strength of spirit to match their good humour. They landed Queensland's second largest annual catch - the Creek and local fish markets were the backbone of the Wynnum community.
Their tale is one of triumph and loss and John Parke's new book
Against the Tide chronicles the fishermen's stories and their industry since 1824. The evening has been organised to celebrate the launch of this book and one of John's collaborative efforts,
Recipes for Small Chefs - Seafood Edition. The Small Chef will be giving cooking demonstrations to teach the kids to make Jolly Wobbly Jellyfish Jelly.
Check out the
website for more information or to purchase the books.
There will be a couple of food stalls and along with the cooking demonstrations, the kids will be able to learn about how to catch fish and listen to shark tales from local fishermen. A five piece jazz band and singer, along with short films and animations about the fishermen, will make it a night for everyone.
There is plenty of parking in this area of Manly, or a five minute stroll from Manly station on the Cleveland line is an easy alternative.
In the event of bad weather, this event will take place at the Moreton Bay Trailer Boat Club, 34 Fairlead Crescent, Manly.
