Afternoon tea appears to be the new hip and cool way to celebrate an event in my social circle and I personally am ecstatic. I adore everything about afternoon teas: the atmosphere, the mix of sweet and savoury foods and of course, most importantly, the abundance of delicious teas.

I recently organised a group of girls for an afternoon tea in the George Hotel which is nestled between the sky scrapers in the convenient location of Perth's CBD.

The staff at this hotel are amazingly helpful and polite. They were a pleasure to deal with from the very first email to the minute we left the hotel after our event. I had to make a few amendments to the booking on a couple of occasions and it was never a problem.

I went for the George Traditional Afternoon Tea package for my event, which includes a variety of sweet and savoury treats such as freshly baked scones, French macarons, petit open sandwiches and quirky tarts. This package costs a very reasonable $45 per person.

When we arrived at the hotel we were greeted by the warm and welcoming staff and immediately shown to our table that was ready and waiting for us. What struck me first was the relaxed but sophisticated ambiance of the dining hall. The weather on that particular day was very unlike Perth and there was a lot of wind and rain, however this only added to our experience as you would be forgiven for thinking you had been transported to a Parisian dining hall on a cold French winter's afternoon.

The range of teas the George offers is very impressive. We were offered the choice of Peppermint, Chamomile, English Breakfast, Green Tea and Jasmine, Lemongrass and Ginger, Masala Chai, Earl Grey or Vanilla.

I had the Peppermint and the Green Tea and Jasmine, both of which were aromatic, perfectly brewed and above all very tasty. Food wise the scones were the clear winner for me. They were light and fresh and served with a mixed berry jam and Chantilly cream. They tasted divine.

In my opinion everything about the George is top class from the food to the service. I couldn't fault anything.

If you are looking for a fun afternoon with the girls I would highly recommend checking this place out.
