I am always looking out for new experiences, wherever I may find myself.
The Africultures Festival is a day to celebrate the heritage and cultures of Africa and recognise their presence here in Sydney. Reaching its fifth year in 2013, the event will take place on Saturday March 16, from 11.00am to 5.30pm, at Auburn Park in Auburn. It is set to feature dance, music, fashion, food, arts and crafts, and more.

The centre of the festival's entertainment will be the Main Stage, which will host everything from traditional African music and dancing to more contemporary performances, like hip-hop, rap and Zumba (a list performers can be viewed here).

The Main Stage will also host an African Fashion Parade, which is open to anyone who wants to dress in African attire and take part. Prizes will even be awarded to the best dressed man, woman and child.

To get your shopping fix, head to the AfricMarket Place for the Community Bazaar. Stalls will be promoting small African businesses, selling jewellery, art, sculpture, clothes and more. There will also be information stalls.

At The Nile Food Court, you will be able to experience the tastes of Africa, while the nearby Art Gallery will be full of original art work by African artists now living in Australia, which are available for purchase.

Another place to check out if you're attending the festival with the family is Watoto Corner, which is dedicated to youth sports and children's activities. Here, you will find a rock climbing wall, a farm animal nursery and face painting, as well as AFL, Soccer and Netball.

To raise money for the Africultures Festival and associated projects, a raffle is being sponsored by Arab Bank. The main prize is a return flight to Africa for one (valued at $2100.00), with second, third and fourth prizes being Arab Bank accounts. Africultures Festival t-shirts are also on offer. Prizes will be drawn at the festival.

As well as buying tickets, you can also support the festival by becoming a ticket seller. The person who raises the most money will even receive a prize (details can be found here). There is also the option of volunteering on the day, and anyone interested should click here to register.
