Africafe Infusion is an initiative created by Swati, founder of My Malaria Mission. Swati, who grew up in Tanzania, is passionate about eradicating
malaria in Africa; a mosquito-borne infectious disease.
Swati herself was diagnosed with cerebral malaria as a child, a fatal disease which involves high fever and severe headaches. However Swati was one of the lucky few, who received medical treatment in the early stages of contracting cerebral malaria and survived the horrific disease. That was back in 1981 and three decades later, the plight of malaria in Africa is still a burning issue.
According to the
World Health Organisation, the African Region currently accounts for 85% of malaria cases and 90% of malaria deaths worldwide. It is a staggering statistic, particularly when you consider that many cases of malaria infection are preventable.
Many health organisations suggest that the use of mosquito nets treated with an insecticide can help protect families from mosquito bites in malarial areas. However many families are simply unable to afford this key prevention aid, which is why Swati created the Africafe Infusion initiative.
Through the sales of Africafe Infusion Australia Tea and Coffee
products grown on the slopes of Mt.Kilimanjaro, Swati will help fund the purchase of mosquito nets which will help save the lives of many in Africa.
