In recent years there has been an increase in the number of African migrants to Australia and it seems that Australians are ready to embrace African food and culture as we have done with numerous other cultures. Brisbane has an active African community with shops, restaurants and entertainment.

Woodridge has a large number of recent African migrants, and so it is not surprising that there are some African grocery stores and hairdressers in the area.

The best suburb for experiencing is in Moorooka. There are a number of great restaurants and cafes with two standout examples being Made in Africa and Yeshi Buna . Both have excellent Ethiopian coffee and cuisine. Made in Africa stands out for their platters which let you sample eight African dishes between two or more people.

Umdorman is a better choice if you want a quick meal and features South Sudanese food.

Moorooka is a great choice as well for African shopping. There are several grocery stores, clothing shops, hair dressers and other shops. If the prices are not displayed, feel free to ask and don't be shy about negotiating prices with the shop owners.

Africa house run by the Queensland African Communities Council is often the center for African music and entertainment in Brisbane. Check out their website for upcoming events.

If you want to become even more actively involved in African culture then consider learning African Drumming and Dance. You can do this through regular classes held in West End .
